The Gift #2

A man was walking down the street, trying to figure out what to get his new wife for Christmas. He passed by the homeless soul, looked down, and dropped a dollar into the cup. The homeless man smiled up at him, as if it were a million. The man walked on by, then turned and went into the store. He returned, after spending all his money, with a brand new coat, socks and boots. He gave them to the homeless man, and they both shed tears.

The man walked away, knowing he'd just gotten the perfect gift for his bride.

The Gift #1

The lines on his face were a novel, a sweeping tale of love and hate, joy and misery, pleasure and pain. His eyes were an ambivalent arena of resignation mixed with a spark of optimism that life just couldn't take from him. He sat on the cold sidewalk with his back against the brick wall of a store he couldn't afford to enter. He clutched his threadbare coat together, hoping and praying that someone would walk by and drop a few coins into his little tin cup so he could get a cup of coffee to warm his frozen bones...
