The Gift #1

by

The lines on his face were a novel, a sweeping tale of love and hate, joy and misery, pleasure and pain. His eyes were an ambivalent arena of resignation mixed with a spark of optimism that life just couldn't take from him. He sat on the cold sidewalk with his back against the brick wall of a store he couldn't afford to enter. He clutched his threadbare coat together, hoping and praying that someone would walk by and drop a few coins into his little tin cup so he could get a cup of coffee to warm his frozen bones...

I love the different perspectives of these two stories. Makes you think what are the back stories of the characters too. Loved them.

Now I’ve read story #2 I feel able to comment. You have beautifully set up the character (#1) here and made me want to dip my hand in my pocket for him. The second story does for him what I would wish to have done myself (if you get what I mean). Have a lovely Christmas, y’hear!

Wow. There is so much going on in both stories. I had to re-read the second story several times. It's packed with so much emotion. I enjoyed "The lines on his face were a novel."

Yes Christopher, the starting words are really good, as Michael has said.
