The Cat That Got The Cream Marries Petite Sweet

Golden Times #4

His face says it all. But in his head he’s wondering how and why? How did he persuade this diminutive delight to walk down the aisle of this pretty thatched church? And why had she said yes and subsequently I do? As they drove away in the Rolls Royce Sedanca de Ville, he’d no idea that a few hours later they would be stuck in the middle of nowhere together in a hirecar with seized gearbox, new wife in tears.

It didn’t look good... but fifty years on it looks great, has been great... and that cream hasn’t gone off!

Preparations

Golden Times #3

In the Green Man, the Groom and Best Man made final preparations for the wedding. To build up courage, courage to defy the parental thumbs down, something strong was necessary. But strong things have a habit of giving themselves away. Not a good idea to find oneself drunk in charge of a gold ring.

Nonetheless, courage of the Dutch kind was required. To give himself a chance of surviving the ceremony, the Groom calculated four vodka and limes to be ideal, but as they kicked in, he kicked off...

“I do!” he shouted to the congregation... and he sure did!

Cool Kid!

Golden Times #2

Stardate 17 July 2021 minus fifty. Two people, apparently unsuited to each other, wait. 3pm had seemed ages away... now it was upon them. Her mother begged the man not to marry her. Her daughter was equally determined he should. She’d driven to the hairdressers in the city. The car conked out on the way back... a sign of things to come?

Coolly she sat on the verge on Mousehold Heath determined to finish reading her book before the honeymoon while waiting for her brother to come and rescue her.

Elsewhere, her nervous groom was downing four vodka and limes...

Golden Times #1

Second day of the year
I can never forget
For that was the day
Was the day we first met.

The moment I saw you
That evening, that day
Exchanging my glances
A whole room’s length away.

But who was that boy
Standing right by your side
My chances seemed hopeless
As my hopes did subside.

But this girl oh so pretty
Walked right over my way
And you asked me my name
Which I shared right away.

And then several years later
We became man and wife
And still fifty years on
You are the love of my life.
