The Impending Collapse of It All

‘It’s so peaceful here’ remarked Jessica, letting out a sigh in the summer air.
‘Yeah’ Andy replied, glancing shyly at her. He sniffed, his hayfever starting to take hold.
In the distance, the pair of them watched the trails of the missiles that had been launched from the military base some ten miles away in the desert.
‘Do you think anything bad will happen?’ asked Jessica.
‘I don’t know’ Andy said, a frown creasing his brow as the missiles climbed higher in the sky.
Andy allowed his hand to creep slowly over to Jessica’s, clutching it tightly.
