The first response ambulance came to a stop in front of the house, and the medic got out, grabbing his emergency bag as he did so.
"I am glad you are here." Announced the house as the door opened. "David's medical monitor reported that David's heart stopped fifteen minutes ago."
The medic's eye's rolled. He'd been expecting this after the delay.
"The kitchen has made coffee for you. David's bedroom is the second door on the left."
The medic looked down on the quiet, dignified, body.
"The kitchen would like to know if David will be ready for breakfast soon?"

Love it Jeff, particularly the last line! Great stuff and makes you think... I wonder... in how many years time? Guess David needs a 'hearty' breaskfast :-)

Thanks Neville. To be honest, I thought of the house AI as something that doesn't understand death. A bit like a child meeting it for the first time. Things get fixed in its works view, or replaced. Would we be callous enough to wipe its memory when someone else moves in?

Wow Jeff, deep stuff and fascinating. This is food for a lot of thought... and possibly drabbles! :-) Very enjoyable.
