Desperado #1

by

The Literary judge dons the cap,
And calmly then pronounces that,
'Drabble is story, never verse.'
'You're not a writer but something worse.'
He lifts the gavel and gives a rap,
'I put it to you, your writing's crap.'
'I sentence you to a respite week,'
'Writing drama - then we'll see.'
'At least ten votes, there'd better be,'
'or you'll be back in front of me.'

'Yes, your Honour,' I hear me say,
Knowing ten votes don't come my way.'

So here I am in chosen cell,
Trapped within my 'living hell,'

... When I write I pray as well?

Love this! Your sentence, well maybe one or two of them, might seem harsh, but imho, the ‘living hell’ of the drabble is not only a fabulous discrete entity, but its very brevity has a number of highly valuable bonuses for the budding writer of longer pieces. It forces the writer to plan, plan, plan, plan..... each drabble. It forces the drabbler to find briefer alternative words, phrases, expressions, often enriching the text. And importantly, it forces the writer to wield his/her red pen on him/herself, remove repetition and indulgences and improve on the quality and flow of the piece. I love its strictures!

Thank you, Neville. It's a back-handed sympathy ploy to appeal for more likes!
