"Well," the stranger continued, "if you don't want to be here then why are you still here?"

Barbara lost it. She slammed her hand down on the counter so hard it shook the man's coffee cup and made the fork on his plate rattle.

"Who the hell are you? Do you think it's easy to just pack up and run off?"

"Didn't you do that once before?" he asked and it shook Barbara to her core.

She did pack up and run off once. She was 21 and living in Charlotte, North Carolina where she had been born and raised...
