Requiem For A Stripper #376

by

Jen and I started down the street. We both seemed oblivious to the drizzle that was falling on us. I didn't know how long this relationship would last now that the case was over, but I was willing to take it as far as it went.

We could hear solemn, bluesy saxophone music coming from a fire escape in the alley we were passing. We stopped and looked up to see a Negro making gentle love to his horn.

I thought about Honey Comb. The lonesome melody was a tribute to her.

A fitting requiem for a stripper.

Well, that's it. This turned out to be one of the longest Jake Randolph stories I've done. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out, though.

But fear not, Jake Randolph will return...

And I just went back and checked. This IS the longest Jake Randolph story ever.

And one of the very best. Very well done, mate! A tour de (police) force indeed! I have enjoyed every single constituent drabble along the way. Once again, I hope you don’t mind my fatuous comments along the way. You see, I want you to know that I read every word and engage with the characters (and like to have a laugh too!). I can’t wait for the next outing for Jake, but realise that I have a bargain to fulfil pretty damn soon too! .....continues...

...and Christophet, please do consider publishing these on kdp.com or some such self-publishing site. I would definitely be your first customer. They could be bundled in twos or threes to make the volumes weightier. You’ve already done the hard work, with me, for one, being a beta reader, but if you don’t feel confident about the minimal tech side of it I’m sure you know someone who can help out! Please! And I will publish my stories and poems too...

And thanks for a terrific ride and read. Jake, Jake, Jake, Jake! We want more from Jake! Soon please....

Christopher! (Christophet sounds like a prophet! Sorry! I’m getting careless!)

Hehe, no problem. And thanks so much for sticking with it. It means a lot to me.

It’s really no problem sticking with it because Jake is always very readable and engaging... and besides, Christopher, you’re a good mate!
