I turned and started to walk across the street.
"Randolph!" Harrigan yelled. I turned back.
"Yeah?" I said.
"Be careful," he said and then got back in the car and drove off.
I stood there for a moment thinking that friends like Harrigan are hard to come by. Even though I might act like it sometimes, I've never taken that friendship lightly...

These few drabbles are my favorite exchange I've ever written between Jake and Harrigan. Their entire relationship is summed up in this scene... Jake using the law, then flouting it and being flippant about it; Harrigan getting angry and reprimanding Jake; Jake having to explain his case to Harrigan; and the inevitable reconciliation.
