I figured I had all I was going to get from Sperry, so I got up and Mason followed suit.
Sperry sat there in the chair and didn't get up so I stepped over and stuck my hand out. Sperry looked at me a moment and then shook my hand. Mason stuck his hand out and Sperry just stared at it until Mason sheepishly stuck it in his pocket.
I told Sperry I'd keep him updated and started for the door.
"Wait, Randolph. We didn't discuss your fee."
"It's on me. Make a donation to the home for bewildered actors."

That’s mighty generous, Jake. Guess you don’t want to be beholden to Sperry... either that or you want Roxie to be seen in a good light, or you want yourself to be seen in a good light by Roxie... in a good light, for a good night... or ten! Maybe all of the above?

All of the above, you nailed it! (Which is what Jake is aiming for too!)

Nothing like nailing it!

A little embarrassed for Mason now. .Can imagine Sperry looking at me as if to say 'What value do you imagine your comments have/ ' -) .

What value do you imagine Sperry’s comments have, Jamie? Your comments thoughmare most certainly valued and welcomed!

Indeed. I always love reading the comments.
And I kind of felt bad for Mason too in that scene but I figured that's exactly how a studio head would treat an actor that wasn't a huge star yet.
