"Jake," Roxie said as we got in my aqua colored 1955 Ford Thunderbird I'd bought new the previous year, "can you take me somewhere?"
"Yeah," I said as I cranked the car, "I'm taking you home and then I'm going to take advantage of you!"
She grinned, "No, I have something I want to show you."
I looked over at her, "And you have something I want to see!"
"Please, Jake. Will you take me to Culver City?"
"Culver City? What the hell for?"
"Like I said I have something I want to show you."
I turned toward Culver City...

That was my not-so-subtle way of saying the story took place in 1956, but then I remembered the new model year for a car actually comes out the year before.

I hadn’t noticed, Christopher, but I was transported to the West Coast in 1955... not that I’ve ever been there except via 77 Sunset Strip and Whirlybirds (although I doubt that those were around in ‘55). I will be checking out the Thunderbird 55 though.... and have just played Tom Waits’s Ol’ 55, an ol’ fave of mine on Spotify.😁

Neville, I learned a lot about Los Angeles in the 1950s from 77 Sunset Strip too, along with Philip Marlowe novels.
And I love that Tom Waits song, although I always thought he was talking about a '55 Chevy Bel Air. At least that's what I pictured in my mind. The Eagles did an amazing cover of Ol' 55 back in 1974. You should check it out if you haven't heard it.
