Obituaries #1

by

Ida Jensen passed away yesterday at the age of 73.

Miss Jensen was an institution at the gas company. She'd worked there 53 years. No one did bookkeeping and payroll better than Miss Jensen.

She began working for the gas company at age 20 and rarely missed a day. She'd just finished payroll for the previous week when her heart gave out.

Her boss, Jared Moore, said, "She was put in the debit column when she left Heaven and added as a credit to Earth. Now...it's the opposite."

This was meant to be the start of a series of funny drabbles of fake obituaries, but as I wrote this it seemed a rather touching tribute to a fictional person so I just went with it. I may not do any more or may actually try to make the next one funny, I don't know.

But this one is what it is.

Don’t be so critical with yourself, Christopher, I really like this touching tribute and it has a terrific outtro! Before I had read your comment, I thought ‘what a great series concept; wish I’d thought of it’. So please write more... I can quite see how they could be really funny as well as charming.

Thanks, Neville. I'll ponder some others. I think I have a funny one rattling around in the back of my head, I'm just trying to get it pulled to the front.

Keep on pulling, Christopher (in the nicest sense of course!) 😊
