"No, mate. S'got to. This is historic!" Nigel said.

"It's gonna cost 500,000 pounds to bong it! They'd have to build a temporary floor to replace the bonging mechanism," replied Alistair.

"Rubbish! It tolled on New Year's Eve, no? What were they doing then? Shootin' it with spitballs?"

Alistair replied, "They waited until 2 January to take the floor out, that's why!"

Alistair got up to leave.

"You were a remainer anyway!" Nigel yelled. "Ask not for whom Big Ben bongs, mate! It bongs for thee!"

Since I'm doing a series about clocks, and the most famous clock in the entire world is in the news at this very moment, I thought I'd do a drabble about it. I had to Google to find a real pub in London. I'm sure Neville could've recommended a good one but he hasn't been around lately so I had to find one myself. They said Charles Dickens used to hang out at The Lamb & Flag so I thought that was pretty cool.

And the character of Nigel wasn't based on Mr. Farage, it actually came into my head first because of The Young Ones' Nigel Planer.

You found a terrific pub Christopher! I used to hang out in the Lamb and Flag - excellent hostelry that it is. It’s quite close to St James’s Square, where the ad agency I worked at was based. It sold Young’s Best Bitter, a London ale... first class. Good lunches upstairs too. Great timely (!) drabble!

Btw, just discovered Alabama Shakes, an Athens Al band. The outtro of the brilliant final episode of Fleabag featured it. Brittany someone is the lead singer..
    she’s excellent!

Yeah, I've heard their stuff but I don't really listen to them.

And why am I not surprised that you've spent quality time in the Lamb & Flag?

    :)
