"No," I said, "you're my friend."
There was silence on the other end. I hoped I had made Harrigan feel as much of the jackass as he acted like most of the time.
"Okay, Jake. I'll be there at 9:30 pm," Harrigan said and then hung up.
Deborah and I were meeting Morty and Nick at 9 pm. I figured 30 minutes would be enough time for Deborah to verbally abuse them before they were carted off to jail.
And once they implicated Stan North, this case would be over...

I just went back and checked. This has now become the longest Jake Randolph tale ever and I can't believe it started as a short story.

Very well done Christopher. It must be 29,500 words and counting. It must be the story taking itself over as you’ve mentioned.
I’m a bit worried that tonight’s meeting might go belly-up with half an hour delay before the cops arrive, but maybe Harrigan will arrive early. Things might be tricky at the Tiki. -
