"I guess," Harrigan continued, "I'm hard on you because I don't want to see you get in trouble. And you do have a nasty habit of falling ass over elbows into trouble, Jake."

Kip looked surprised too. I think we were both seeing a side of Harrigan we never knew existed.

"Well, thanks for the concern, Jim. My interest is helping people. I suppose that blinds me in a way. But I have a great respect for you and what you do. I'm not trying to minimize it by being uncooperative. I hope you realize that."
