Nick chuckled and Morty looked kinda funny, like he didn't expect a hit man to have a sense of humor. I figured I should tone it down a little for the sake of appearances. I walked over to the case and closed it.

"Am I right to assume the L.A.P.D. has already talked to you, Morty?"

He nodded, "That was hard. They practically talked to me like I killed her."

"No," I said, "that's what you paid me for. Anyway, that's a typical cop practice. They always look at the immediate family first as suspects and then go from there."
