Aristotle ran the flower shop. He was a midget, only standing about 3'10'', but I once saw him bring a man over six feet tall to his knees, crying as he fell. Ari was a little spitfire and not one to be trifled with. But I liked him and I think he liked me, so I hoped he would let me back to see Whistling Eddie without me having to promise my future firstborn as collateral.
The bell rang as I opened the door to the shop. The smell of all those flowers was quite intoxicating, and bordering on overpowering....

Sorry for such a non-PC word like "midget" but that's what they were called then and I'm not rewriting history just to be inoffensive.

No worries here, Christopher. And anyway, Ari comes out of the description rather a lot taller than most guys, if you see what I mean.

Yeah, and that's what they used to call each other too. This idea that it's always been an offensive word is bunk.
