"So," I said, "how will I know this...boss of yours?"

"He'll be in a booth in the back right corner of the club. And he'll be wearing a red carnation on his lapel."

This was beginning to seem like some bad movie about espionage. But the weirder it sounded the more I wanted to find out what the hell it was all about.

"And what's his name?" I asked.

"Mort Alexander," she said in a quiet tone.

"And what's your name?" I asked nonchalantly.

She hung up before giving me an answer to my query.

Now I was really intrigued...
