Deaf Dumb And Blind Date #2

by

As dinner progressed I could see we weren't making a connection. She kept looking at her smartphone, which was the only thing about her that had any sort of intelligence. It was beyond me how this generation was so dumb and yet tech-savvy enough to maneuver all this useless technology.

Then the final straw. I said I wanted to catch Guns N' Roses next time they were in town.

"Who's Guns N' Roses?" she asked with all the charm of a deer caught in the headlights.

I excused myself to visit the bathroom.

And then crawled out the window.

Agree with Drew. At least you skipped the bill. D’you think she likes really old 3rd graders?

Thanks, Drew and Neville. The date part is false, but I've had conversations with millennials that played out exactly like this. I was wearing my Ramones presidential logo T-shirt once and a millennial chick kept staring at me. I thought she was checking me out, but then I realized she was staring at my shirt. I could read her lips when she leaned over to her friend and asked, "What is Ramones?"

    Peasants.

I don't think he was ever popular here in the States but I've heard it before. It's a beautiful song. Reminds me of some of the American singer-songwriters like Don McLean, Harry Chapin or Gordon Lightfoot. Well, Gordon was Canadian. North American singer-songwriters, I should say.

One of my best mates at school, Paul Millns, is great friends with Ralph McTell and has played with and supported him among other greats over the years. He’s a class act, but bigger in Germany than ever he’s been here. Used to play the Troubadour, which is an interesting venue - you probably know it Drew. An extraordinary pianist, even at school, it was no surprise when he kicked teaching into touch and started as a professional musician. One of the interesting things he told me was that back in the day Elvis Costello was in his backing group! A good claim to fame I think!

I can't imagine Elvis Costello ever being in someone's back-up group! I think "Alison" is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. And I'm still trying to work out exactly what "Watching The Detectives" means. But I'm digressing...

I've mentally thought of the same concept but I persevered till I could escape with brain fade and manners intact. Good story.

'OMG' that's the newish trendy word used by the millennials (hope I've spelt it right millennial that is..) "LOL", "soz" can't help myself .... I'm on a roll... just need to add a few of these to your vocabulary and go for the 3rd date and feed back haha. Those stories were hilarious.

Thanks, LesleyAnne. I'd rather relive my glory days and stay home and watch The Breakfast Club and reminisce about when young people actually had some substance.
