It was a weird sensation, like someone had stabbed me with a red hot poker. The fall to the cantina floor hurt almost as much as the gunshot. After a few moments my side just went numb.
Life is a funny thing. I went through the whole of World War II and never took a bullet, partially because of the man that just put one in me.
Russo flipped a table up to use as a shield and pulled his pistol, returning fire at Rivers, who retreated out the back.
I looked up at Russo, "Maybe it's my time, Sharkey."
