Jake Randolph Origins #127

by

"Oh, forgive my manners," Hall said as he turned to the gangster. "This is Nevada's own Sharkey Russo, businessman and philanthropist. Sharkey," he said as he turned to me, "this is California's own Jake Randolph, a two-bit smart aleck and a royal thorn in my ass!" Hall looked all puffed up with arrogance, like a balloon. He was clearly enjoying having me over a barrel and knowing it. I hoped I'd have a chance to stick a pin in him.

Russo looked at me, "Delighted, Mr. Randolph."

The nonchalant way he said that unnerved the hell out of me...

Such politeness. Clearly these were nice people after all. :-)
I can't figure how you're going to get out of this, Jake.... but (spoiler alert!) you must, because this is part of your back story. I can't wait!

...oh, and presumably Sharkey's philanthropy is the generous way he gives away bullets; just spreading them round.

    Haha. That must be it.

I've always found people that act calm in tense situations are much more disconcerting and menacing than people who act bat crap crazy. Like a James Bond villain that's so polite and mannerly and yet he's trying to annihilate the entire population of the planet.
