They came from far away, presumably in peace. We welcomed them. We taught each other new ways of doing things. We thought we had built a lasting friendship. We were wrong.
They began to take over, systematically annexing the land. We fought back valiantly, but it was to no avail. We were put onto smaller and smaller parcels of land, when they weren't trying to exterminate us outright.
We lost our heritage and our culture, as we were slowly assimilated into theirs. And much like the buffalo that once freely roamed this land, the Native American is almost a memory.

I was trying to equate the European settlers coming to America as an extraterrestrial invasion. You'll have to judge whether I pulled it off or not.
Not that I'm opposed to the Manifest Destiny doctrine, but we certainly could've handled it better. The Indians definitely got the short end of the tomahawk on that deal.

They sure did get a bum deal, Christopher, and to think that in my youth I was always rooting for the cowboys in those lacklustre but ubiquitous B movies. Shame on me! A great drabble which had me guessing until the end! (Unlike Mrs H, I never read the ending first.)

Humans are crap. Especially when there's other humans involved

Well, Neville, not all cowboys were ruthless Indian killers! Thanks for reading.

It's well written Christopher! It also had your desired effect, I thought it was an space alien invasion until the very end 😊
