The Pursuer #2

by

I was flying down the road as fast as I could go!

Tap, tap, tap!

My heart felt like it was going to explode.

Tap, tap, tap!

What was following me? What did it want?

Tap, tap, tap!

I couldn't shake it. It was keeping up with me, right behind me!

Tap, tap, tap!

I raced up my driveway, under the carport, jettisoned the bike and barreled into the house.

The next day, a little braver in the sunlight, I went out and faced my pursuer.

A leaf was wedged in the spokes of my back tire!

Tap, tap tap...

Nice one (two!), Christopher. I can just imagine the fear, in the dark. When I was a lad, we used to fix a bit of cardboard so it just touched the spokes of the back wheel. It made the sound (to us) of a motor so we could fool ourselves that it was a motorbike. Great fun...except if you're in the dark and not expecting it I guess!

Thanks, Neville. It's funny what the human mind can conjure up in darkness that never would occur to us in daylight.

Heh. Suspected there was no one behind him but thoroughly enjoyed the innocently scary ride. :-)

Thank you, Jeff. It was loosely based on an actual event.
