Rock-n-roll was regurgitating out of the stereo speakers and bouncing off the walls. Some guy named Fabian was wailing about turning him loose. I wished they'd turn him off.
There were girls of every description milling around in various states of undress. Gibson sidled up to the Negro girl and started a quiet conversation. Nice to see he wasn't bigoted when it came to his prostitutes.
There were girls of every kind: Caucasian ones, Hispanic ones, Asian ones, Indian ones.
About the only girl I didn't spot was the redheaded Beatnik one that I went there to find...

I hope the word "Negro" doesn't offend anyone. I try to be as accurate as possible with these stories, and that was the polite and accepted term at that time. The word "Black" wasn't widely used until the mid-60's. Sorry if anyone is offended.

Oh, and apologies to any Fabian fans out there.

Your attention to historic accuracy does you credit and I would be surprised if anyone reading is offended, but very thoughtful to include the disclaimer. Love the 'wished they'd turn him off' reference. Made me chuckle! :-)

Thank you so much, Robbin.
Thanks to you as well, Neville. Race has never really come up in these stories, except for the last one where I referred to Vic Stane's Italian henchmen as "guido's." But this is a bit more of a ticklish subject so I wanted to make sure I addressed it.
Glad you appreciated that line, Neville. Personally, I love rock-n-roll, even Fabian, but Jake would've developed his taste in music long before that genre sprung up.

I'm a rockaphile too, Christopher, although more punk rocker (music, not appearance) in my case. Jake's taste certainly wouldn't be mine!

I never would've pegged you as liking punk rock, Neville. More Beatles/Stones, which are my faves. Along with Hendrix, the Doors, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd. I could keep going but I'll stop there (I do love the Ramones and the Clash, though).
Thank you, Drew. Fabian was one of those guys that came in to fill the void when Elvis went into the Army. When I was a child my party piece was singing his hit "Turn Me Loose."
