McCheers!

Wine etiquette #2

Today’s decision not to risk the wine dilemma worked out well. Our hosts had plenty of champagne and fine red wine to accompany our excellent meal.

But the wine issue got me remembering the way my late best friend and fellow Drablr McBrevity, dealt with things. A very successful commercial planning guru, he knew his wine, he liked his wine and he was expert in what he liked!

He always took a bottle of stunning wine to whatever party he went. He would make sure though that he drank it... and that I did too! That’s true friendship!

Cheers Steve!

Wining and Dining

Wine etiquette #1

Today we went out for a lunch with some friends. This always prompts the dilemma, what do we take the hosts?

In days of yore,
When we were so poor
Cheap Spanish wine
Would do just fine!
But now the wine
Must be fine.

Poor students were glad of anything alcoholic. Poor young marrieds too! But these days does taking a bottle of wine imply that our now rich friends can’t afford to provide us wine? And would our wine offering be good enough anyway?

Today we took posh chocolates and homemade jam.

Hope they weren’t banking on getting wine!
