In 1951 Jake took on a case involving a little girl who was looking for her missing father. At the conclusion of that case, in which Jake felt he had recklessly endangered the little girl, he decided to close his detective agency.

He bought the Existential Cafe shortly after. In 1959, after a run-in with some Beatniks, Jake was pulled back into the detective game, eventually re-opening his agency.

But no story has ever been told about what Jake was up to during the eight years in the 1950s that he wasn't a detective.

Jake Randolph - Biography (1/2)

Biography #1

Jake joined the US Army at 20 years old in 1942 at the start of the USA's involvement in World War II. He returned to Los Angeles, his hometown, at the end of the war in 1945. His Army buddy, Jim Harrigan, joined the Los Angeles Police Department, while Jake opted to go into business for himself, opening a detective agency.

After a case in 1950 Jake came into a large sum of money (a quarter of a million dollars), and began making substantial business investments. Before long his money was working for him instead of the other way around...
