That morning my dreams kept their mouths shut so I had no warning. Just a tickle of laughter from the cherub sitting on my shoulder.
I wasn’t ready, SO not ready, but he showed up anyway.
We looked at each other through the storm door. There were no explosions, just the feeling of a low fire, which made sense after such a long, cold winter.
“Where have you been all my life, gorgeous?” he said.
I smiled. “Right here, hero. Just waiting for the right moment.”
I opened the door and let him in.
It was a very good day.
