It was one of the first instruments I played, a rainstick that I made at school, a long time ago. I filled it with rice, covered it in papier mache, and painted the cardboard tube with all the colours of the rainbow. I would turn it round, let the rain slip between my fingers, its song serenading me. It spawned one of my first stories, about a wizard who learned to create rainbow coloured rain, to save his world from turning into a desert. I found it yesterday, tidying a cupboard. I couldn't throw it away. I didn't want to.
