The oboe echoes, the lone A floating on the air. Oh gods above, I've missed that sound. Its been too long. The call resounds, and my heart answers with joy. It is the sound of home, as familiar as my own door, an entrance to worlds of wonder.

It calls the orchestra home. One by one, they come; violins, cellos, bass, clarinets, saxophones, trombones, trumpets, even the tuba at the back. The note lingers, rumbling to life as it grows louder. It hums, a hundred voices in one sound that makes my soul tremble with a thrill like no other.

I hear the unmistakeable sound of the oboe and I pick out the other instruments too, but I’m intrigued as to the work and, importantly, it’s melody. I love how your enthusiasm for the ensemble shine through, Sarah.

This has given me a nudge to start listening to classical music again. :-)
