I'm not sure why we do this. Every time, we get our hopes up. Every time, it goes wrong. Every time, we don't win.
I'm so tired of it all. Every time, I try to get into it. But it's just not for me. But it bleeds into everything; news, twitter, stories, even into the supermarket radio when all I want are some strawberries.
I do get why people like it. The anticipation, the drama, action, escapism. But I have found those things more in fantasy than from ever watching someone run down a field for an hour. No more.

Hear, hear! Expectations are ‘bigged up’ (horrid expression!) so high that a fall seems inevitable.

I gave up all sports when the players started bringing their politics on to the field. And, surprisingly for a lifelong fan of sports, I don't miss it at all.
