Uncle Archie

After Archie was shot in Sicily, the Germans sank his hospital ship. He avoided becoming fish food thanks to a passing destroyer.

While he was away fighting his wife fell down the stairs and died. Some said she was having an affair; others that she didn’t trip. Anyway after the war Archie dumped his daughter and moved to Crewe. He found another wife, and worked for the railways.

Mum dreaded Archie’s visits:

‘He eats us out of house and home.’

Archie was a big man of prodigious appetites; the police told us he dropped dead while cooking a fry up.
