Mum always said to have a packet with you. Scout camp she forgot my underwear but I’d got a pack of cards in my rucksack. She was right. Snap to Cribbage there was no age limits with a game of cards. I’d killed many hours with a clock of Patience cards.

Lately it’s not been playing to pass the time or a bit of fun. The stakes have got higher than the matchsticks at Nans. A bag of halfpennies turned to banknotes, a car, a house… to this.

I want this to be my last hand even if I win.

But if you win... I bet it won’t be! A great take on what’s an increasing problem for many (hardly likely to be reversed in these challenging financial times.)

Nice one, Lisa. Never been much of a gambler myself. Money's too hard to come by to risk it on a game of random chance. I did burn something like 8 dollars in quarters when I was a teenager to get a stuffed animal out of one of those claw machines!

Thanks for reading! I don’t gamble either - am too much of a miser xx

Something that lingers in my mind whenever I meet someone who gambles. I can only hope they have more control over it than less.

I've never met anyone who gambles but I have met people with other addictions. Very nice writing.
