Although it’s full of water it burns well against the wood and stone interior, reflecting the light from vast leaded windows.
The fairground contorted reflection of the Cathedral mesmerizes me. Glowing between the ordered rows of pews. Rosy cheeked bairns baptised there in the bright copper font.
A man comes over to tell me. "It’s from the old sweet factory. It’s a holy anomaly. Was used for the toffee... The chocolate."
I use it like a mirror. Watch other visitors come in, also drawn gasping towards it. And I tell them. It’s from the factory.
And they, like me, stare.

Terrific..thanks for a beautifully written trip down memory lane, Lisa. Six days a week for many years I would sit in this most wonderful of cathedrals but am not aware of this feature - maybe it's recent. Caleys was the original name of the sweetie manufacturer. Shame it's all gone now. (Not sure I realised at the time what a privilege it was being there!). Must go back again soon.

You should, Drew. It's a fabulous city, cathedral, castle, but I'm a bit biased. Lisa has sold it well!

Thanks all! Appreciate reads and comments XXX
Nev- factory closed mid 90's and they gifted two to Cathedral. New coloured windows also worth a look.
Drew- Sainsbury's Centre is a must visit if over that way.
