I tried a charity shop although my neighbour’s boy had her toddle truck. The sound woke me. I’d thought it was her come back to me.
I bought them back.
I tried throwing them away but chased the bin lorry sobbing. Curtains twitched as I carried rubbish covered toys back home.
I had a fire.
She was there in my head. ‘Mummy why are you burning my things?’ She went before she spoke so I never heard her voice. When my tears didn’t put it out I fetched bucket after bucket to save the little I’d got left of her.
