By-election time in the rural constituency. All the main parties were jostling for votes. The ruling party were suffering from electoral fatigue, but the main opposition parties couldn't articulate what they would do differently or better. And minor parties and a handful of weirdos did what they always seem to do, making their play on very specific minority interests.

The electorate was confused, although many felt that a protest vote was essential to express their dissatisfaction... but for whom?

One wacky candidate's strategy was offering free scones and cuppas outside every polling station.

6,500 majority to the Tea Party.
