The fish and chips in the new chippie in town were excellent; the best around. What they’d failed to get right though was the queueing system for ordering, payment and collection. Most of the space in the small retail food outlet was taken with the fridges, fryers and serving staff. Customers spilled onto the narrow pavement in a disorderly fashion, a scramble not a queue! Hungry customers got irritated!

The most popular choice was cod and chips and there was a scramble to decide whose order was which.

I never had a problem though, because I always knew my plaice.

Nice one. Tell them when it comes to customer service they should be singing a different tuna. People need to be able to pick up their fish and then get their bass outta there!

The noise in our fish-n-chippie was so bad I had to get a herring aid. But I do still remember our fishery girl, in the window, looking like a bream,
