Mrs H was going to a school reunion. I was her chauffeur.... to keep her safe... and go wandering around my own school.

I approached the ancient gateway into the Cathedral Close. But where was Edith Cavell? Originally in the middle of the road, her statue had been moved! Whaaat??

Wandering around and through the magnificent Cathedral, past the buildings of my schooldays... memories cascaded all the way. Very moving!

Then off to my former home and down the road to our #89 bus stop for school. Not there! Also moved! Whaaaaaat!!!

Better tell my best mate... he’ll be furious!

Edith Cavell has a ward named after her at St Georges' Hospital. I once experienced broadly similar outrage at the moving of a statue wen King Edward the seventh, who'd had pride of place in the middle of my local High Street, was shunted to one side.

It’s irritating. Edith Cavell’s statue in Norwich was in the centre of an intersection of roads outside the Cathedral Close. There was no need to move her, no need at all.... and it hasn’t made a scrap of difference to the traffic flow either. She is now rather sidelined, I fear🥴. If you’ve not visited the ‘fine city’ of Norwich, it’s a delight, particularly the magnificent Norman Castle and the wonderful Anglican Cathedral (The RC Cathedral ain’t bad either)

Edith Cavell’s remains were formally moved in about 1955. If you consider my two Drabbles, written about a month ago, Memories and memories 2 it was the formal service in which this was done. At least Princess Margaret was there. It was an extremely moving event which triggered a full attack of my PTSD. And is doing so right now.

If I'm ever in Norwich I will surely check these places out Neville, and will certainly be checking them out before then.

I used to find the 92 more convenient for Cintra Road. No steep hill to walk up. Mind you, when on my bike Gas Hill was the real challenge … could I ride right the way to the top

Richard, I parked on Gas Hill on Saturday. I wondered if the brakes would hold on such a steep hill. It was a doddle walking down, but I had to take a few deep breaths, and time, to walk back up! But it seemed to be the closest place you could stop without without having to pay the Scrooges at the council🥴.
