Whilst Shakespeare wrote plays that were simply to die for
Some claim that the author was Frank Bacon, in cipher
And others they claim that Bill’s work was Ben Johnson’s
But mere lay folk like me say it’s all stuff and nonsense.
And whoever the writer was, Bill, Frank or Ben
Who now gives a shot for who wielded the pen?
And if Bill got false credit then why can’t we agree
That history is quite littered with inaccuracy.
Only Frank, Ben or Billy could possibly know
But they’re all dead as dodos so let’s get on with the show!

Sorry, I read this the day you posted it but got sidetracked and forgot to vote and comment. Really enjoying the poetic interludes.

Thanks Christopher. The first three lines are supposedly true. Francis Bacon apparently did write some of Shakespeare’s work in cipher and there are those who believed/believe that Ben Johnson wrote the Bard’s stuff too.

I've heard about Bacon's supposed contributions to Shakespeare's writings but didn't know about Ben Johnson. I'll look into it.
