Years ago I worked in advertising in London’s West End. It was great! We took our clients to some of the classiest joints in town.

But for our unclient lunches, we hunted in packs for the most interesting eateries... on the wild side. Trattoria Romantica was almost empty every time we went except for a table of Italian men, whispering. No customers, but brilliant food, like Cosa Nostracciatella.

And there was Ank’ra, a Turkish place. As we entered, we were welcomed.... but it went so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Of course, we always chose the Shush Kebab.

Did you know Trattoria Romantica, Frenchie? The one in Rupert Street, Soho? I don’t think they were bothered with us really as the restaurant was clearly just a front!... and we provided them some credibility! But the food was really good... it had to be otherwise they would give the chef an offer he couldn’t refuse!🤣 The Trattoria Romantica was real... but the Ank’ra was only there for the joke!😁

No, I didn't know that Trattoria Romantica was a real place. It is when you named the dish ''Cosa Nostracciatella'' that made me think it might have to do with some unsavoury characters 🤣Now, was it a real dish or you made it up?

Trattoria Romantica was indeed real, Frenchie, and it was rumoured that it was a mafia restaurant... but we went there anyway, because the food was very good and it was close to our offices in St James’s. But that particular dish wasn’t on the menu! If it had been, I think we would have had to try it out😁.
