Non-committeed

With one son a Cub and another a Boy Scout, I appreciated the values of scouting and its various activities.

Then the scout leader buttonholed me to say they needed another committee member and would I like to take it on? I think he thought I would be flattered.

“I’ll pass on that, thanks.” I replied.

”But you’re just the kind of person we need!”

“I’m not a ‘committee person’....”

”Exactly! We want people who aren’t committee people!”

“...and how I would demonstrate that is by never turning up for meetings!

”Aaaaah!”

So no Committee Badge for my jumper then!
