A Mother’s Day treat for us all, not just the mums. Sunday breakfast in Gails, the coolest new patisserie-come-café in town. The grandkids, their mum, her mum and us blokes providing the readies. Our own mums though were happy memories.

The bankers had left, leaving a bank-sized hole in the high street. But then Gails deposited themselves there, after handing over some cash.

There was lots of local interest.

Everything was great. At the rear though was a massive, open security door leading to the strongroom. We kept out. We feared a heist or a lock-in.

They'll probably fare better than the banks did!

How has everything been going on your side of the world? I've just been in a rut that I can't seem to get out of.

Welcome back Christopher. I’ve missed you and worried that you might have given up on us! I know what it’s like to be in a rut and have been there, but I seem to be on the way up now and actually producing stuff...

...Our side of the world’s got its problems and all over the place here we see Ukrainian flags and hear their language now and then in the line queuing to pick up the kids from school. High inflation with associated rising prices and fuel costs, illegal immigrants overcrowding small inflatables to cross the busiest stretch of water in the world (or so they say) between France and England... and too many times downing in the process. A sharp, extended, extremely harsh minus 12degree C frost killed many established plants in our garden, but, d’ya know what, nature’s making adjustments already! Things do get better with time.

Thanks, Neville. I haven't given up drabbling, I just haven't had much inspiration lately. Maybe now that spring has sprung it'll put the spring back in my step.

Yes please, Christopher! I miss old Jake. If it’s any consolation, most writers I know over here have had inspiration loss too, including me. I’m on the way back up now... from a shaky start... and it feels good!🙂

I have several Jake stories I've started. I guess I need to pick one and just get it finished. I have one that's set in the late 60s where an older Jake runs afoul of a crazy band of hippies, loosely based on the Manson family. Maybe I'll get cracking on that one again.
