Artificial Intelligence AI #1

by

Melvin hated coconut with a passion. The taste, texture, and smell made him cringe. But what he particularly hated were the coconut gremlins. They seemed to take pleasure in sneaking coconut into his favourite foods. Melvin had to sift through his cereal painstakingly, removing every trace of coconut.

One day, as he was enjoying a coconut-free bowl of granola, he felt a sharp pain in his throat. Gasping for air, he realised too late that heā€™d missed a minute coconut piece! Those gremlins had finally got to him, and Melvin could only hope it wouldnā€™t be his last breath!

This Drabble was almost exclusively written not by me, but by AI! All I did was give the software a short rough brief based on my loathing of coconut, and AI did true rest! My name has been changed in the piece to protect the innocent!!

    A bit "Predictable" šŸ˜‰

    Should we vote on these?

No Jeff! No votes for AI! Itā€™s both impressive and scary, particularly given that I had given it the skimpiest of briefs. Yes, it is ā€œpredictableā€, but I had asked for a dramatic ending. It wrote all the above in about four seconds from me pressing the start icon! I promise that if ever I should stoop so low again to get AIā€™s writing help I will fess upšŸ„“

I've been playing with the midjourney AI, generating art images. It's... got some interesting output.

Tom Scott did a video on youtube recently about it ("I tried using AI. It scared me") He hoped that we were in the middle/top end of a sigmoid curve. We're not. We're at the bottom. Thing's are going to get... troublesome I suspect.

Troublesome indeed Jeff! As a latter day academic, I worry about the opportunities for students to cheat in ways hitherto only imagined in sci-fi. In particular I worry about the possible consequences on employers, not getting what they might reasonably expect from new graduates.... and resulting losses in business efficiency. Not that itā€™s just graduates who will cotton on; it will start at primary schooling level....

....As a result of my recent experiments, Iā€™ve been thinking that with the new paradigm, it will be those who can give AI the best brief that will win out in the long run. And then I wondered... if so, please then wonā€™t that be the new skillset required for industries that are getting increasingly smart? So who gives a monkeyā€™s anyway?

But maybe the smart employers will revert to traditional apprenticeships... 5 years minimum with the option to fire them for non-performance, or for finding other sneaky ways to con the bosses!

Interesting. I would not have known it was written by an AI. It is a bit scary though. Imagine the possiblities. But if all writers used AI, writers would lose their story telling skills and magic. Now that is scarier!
I shall downvote the AI! I don't want to become a dumbo writer.... šŸ¤£

Agreed Frenchie. An interesting experiment, but one not to be repeated!

And youā€™ll never be a dumbo writer...
