That month our visitors were Kazakhs. I hosted the group’s farewell dinner at the University’s out of town mansion. We ate, drank and were generally merry... exchanging many great jokes as the evening progressed, often via interpreters.
But as hosts, we’d got bored with the predictable institutional university menu.
This time it was different!
With a chef in their midst, the Kazakhs asked if they could cook for us a traditional Kazakhstani dish.... ‘Five Fingers’, aka Beshbarmak. We ate in the traditional way, with the fingers of one hand. Delicious!
So it was five fingers to our familiar faculty fare!

Thanks Frenchie. It was all true and it was such fun. And the Kazakh’s leader owned a hat factory making traditional hats. He presented me one, which amuses the grandchildren when I wear it😁

Did you switch hands for pudding? Delicious drabble Neville and you know why I liked the ending. 😉
