Joining in (2 of 4)

The soprano was heading for the high notes. We guests, having picnicked, were now enjoying a pot pourri of Gilbert & Sullivan, 50s show tunes and rousing anthems from the Last Night of the Proms. Our Queen for 70 years was being royally lauded. We joined in the singing when commanded.

Then as she’d hit the high note, a nearby cockerel topped it. Everyone laughed. The chicken’s interruption was joined by a stream of passenger jets above. And then rockstar Liam Gallagher, banging out his tribute at nearby Knebworth, added his threehalfpence.

But a lone crow’s squawk topped them all!
