Crossing the River Derwent by tiny bridge today, we entered the parkland, sculpted as it is into magnificent peaks and dales, carpeted in bright green grass, short and manicured. First we spied a herd of deer resting atop a peak and then... there it was... the most breathtakingly beautiful grand house in middle England. As we recrossed the river and approached, we saw myriad windows and gateways outlined in gold. This was no ordinary house; it was extraordinary!
Chatsworth House, home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. I’m fairly sure they weren’t expecting us for afternoon tea though!
Shame!

We’re staying close to Matlock/Bakewell. Have really enjoyed the Bakewell Tarts and the Derbyshire Oatcakes... but not the daily rainfall🥴. A bit of a trip down memory lane for me, having enjoyed so many of the Derbyshire village pubs while at university many, many years ago.
Chatsworth is indeed a national treasure, Brian.
You clearly live in a beautiful part of England Marion.

Enjoyed very much seeing the deer up there and the sense of evening light shining on the house. Will be re reading. :-)
