You might ask whom I would most like to invite to dinner, dead or alive. Shakespeare, Churchill, Nelson?

Oh no... I would choose Lucy Worsley.

You might wonder why. You might even wonder who the hell she is. You might not know that she’s Joint Chief Curator at Historic Royal Palaces... historian, academic and an OBE.

And she’s a TV star. She’s cheeky, loves dressing up in character, can’t sound her ‘r’s, is inquisitive, clever and engaging.

She always has lots to say, usually very funny.

I like a laugh. So what more would one want from a dinner guest?

Thanks for the vote Jamie. Few people might know (Dr) Lucy Worsley, but she was on BBC4 the other day doing a programme on the origin of Christmas Carols, she dressed up, she took the piss out of her own speech impediment (a ‘rhotacism’) and she made us laugh, so I thought she deserved a drabble of her own, even if nobody knows who she is but me and Mrs H!

You got my vote Neville! Alas, no longer living in the UK means I don't have the chance to watch her fantastic documentaries.

Thanks very much, Michael. I really appreciate you commenting. Sorry you don’t have access to Lucy’s programmes any longer. Maybe she’s available on Britbox? My wife brought her to my attention originally as before she was famous, Lucy did a talk at a local Arts So kettle meeting... and she was brilliant! Jokingly, in our house I refer to her as ‘your mate’ to Mrs H.

(I’ve been wondering if my comment here is so long it might be close to qualifying as a drabble in its own right!)

You know what I love about Drablr? The unexpected wealth of knowledge (yep), sometimes wisdom (lol), the fun and the camaraderie.
Appalling ignorance, I did not know who is Dr Lucy Worsley so, asked Siri. 😁 For my defence, I don't have a TV but I will check her documentaries online since I like history.
Phew!!! long message. Thank you Neville for always inserting a little gem of education in a fun way.
Talking about gems, hmm... it shows that diamonds are not always a girl's best friends (emeralds might be though) 😂

P.S. Hi Michael, nice to see you again 😊

‘So kettle’ in my last comment should have been ‘Society’, Michael, as in Arts Society. I’m not sure if it was me, my ancient iPad or autocorrect at fault, but thinking further, it was probably all three!

Thanks Frenchie; you are so kind. Education aside, other than the opportunity to share one’s work, what I like most about Drablr are the conversations one has with friends one has never met, across national, international, age and cultural boundaries. Unfortunately right now, and from time to time, those friends disappear, sometimes for a while, sometimes for a long while, sometimes, it seems, not at all. But then what joy when someone ‘lost’ reappears, like D.M. a while back.... and I very much hope that Drew and Lisa Williams might reappear quite soon in the future. All great talents and all missed.☹️

Yes, me too. I hope they are all well. I also miss the first drabblers, like Michael Brookes who taught me all about drabbles :-D
Can you believe it? nearly 8 years of being here 🤩
I am really grateful for this.

8 years, eh, Frenchie? That beats me by two years. Very well done... and thanks for still being here too! The colleague who told me enthusiastically about the site in 2015 signed up too. He’s still stuck on 6 drabbles. (I think we might have lost him😕!) He’s still a FB friend though despite him having moved to NYC. Re Michael Brookes, I’ve not seen anything from him for absolutely ages... excellent drabbler, so that’s a shame☹️

Hi Frenchie, nice to see you too!

Neville, I don't know this box thing but a few days ago I found some Mary Beard docs on YT (also great, if you like the Romans), so hopefully I'll also find some of Lucy's.

There have been, and still are, some great drablrs - here's looking at you both ;-) but I fear that I've not really done enough with Drablr to keep people coming back. I've tried to re-invent the site a few times but I was never able to finish what I started. At the moment I'm learning to build mobile apps and have been experimenting with a Drablr app....who knows, maybe one day I will finish it :-D

Hi Michael. Britbox is a streaming channel comprising BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and I believe Five as well. It’s certainly available in the US - Christopher has, in the past, had a subscription as he is a great Anglophile, particularly our music and TV output. Re getting people to return to Drablr, firstly, don’t beat yourself up about it; it’s a great site as I indicted in an earlier comment here. Secondly, I will try to bend my mind to ways of getting lost sheep back in the flock...

....One initiative could be to invite contributions for a number of anthologies, compilations of different drabblers’ work, maybe themed according to category. A template for, say, Createspace or Kindle could be easily created and Drablrs could get to a wider audience via Kindle or see themselves in print in a tangible way. Of course each Drablr could contribute to and costs from Amazon. Just a thought... Not sure if GDPR allows you to email the ‘lost sheep’... but it might just get them to come and have another look🥴

But Drablr’s really great anyway, and thank you for that.😊
