Peter and I travelled to school by bus. It seemed a long journey, passing the perfectly preserved Norman castle and stopping at the most beautiful cathedral, nestling next to which was our school.
Bus #89 was always a double-decker. We rode on top, sitting above the driver. Every day an adventure. One particular day we were lively. We were happy. We jumped up and down.
The bus suddenly stopped. The driver, not the conductor, marched up to us.
“Want to walk to school?” he asked, “because if you do, just keep jumping up and down!”
We sat down. Quietly.
