The secret of success for those TV moguls is of course getting shows that engage audiences. The icing on the cake - the big money - for locally popular shows comes from selling them internationally.

At Hanna Barbera a sales executive charged with responsibility for the Middle East was struggling selling Yogi Bear into the Gulf States. Market research in the region indicated that cultural differences were the reason... but not everywhere!

His research showed that people in Oman don’t like Yogi Bear or his sidekick Boo-Boo, neither do those in Qatar or Dubai..... but the folks in “Abu Dhabi do!”

On reflection, I suspect that this particular piece of humour might go right over the heads of anyone who’s not in my generation or older.

I first heard this told by larger than life Dawn French (If you’ve ever watched The Vicar of Dibley, Christopher, you might know her as the rather jolly Vicar)

It a generation thing Verity. Yogi Bear was a very famous US cartoon character, along with his much smaller sidekick Booboo. Yogi had a catchword (as opposed to a catchphrase) which was hugely famous and quoted all over the place. It was an exclamation; it was was ‘Yabbadabbadoo!’ (which you need to say out loud!)... et voila!

    Ah! Bear bared!
I'm figuring I'll say this instead of an expletive ;-))

Yabbadabbadoo! is a great substitute curse. Go for it!
