I was a short story bore. My brothers and I were highly competitive, engaging in twice-yearly short story competitions. It was highly motivating, but I needed practice between each nail-biting word battle.

A colleague told me about drabbles, which could help hone my creativity, heighten my competitiveness and keep my nose to a wordcount. He mentioned Drablr and encouraged me by signing up himself. I’m ‘high energy’ and don’t do things by halves, so with a few hundred drabbles under my belt I dared looked back....

Then and now, however, my chum’s still stuck on 6 drabbles! Pah!

Pleasure Neville. That competitive environment sounds stimulating. :-)

    Really nice, Neville.

Drabblr has really helped me hone my writing skills too to the point where I don't even know if I could write something like a novel without keeping it in short bursts of a hundred words. And I can't even stand reading some things now like a novel where they take 3 pages to describe a vase of flowers! I'm like, "Get on with it!"

That should've been one B in Drablr.

Nice, Neville. Where can we read those short stories (I bet you won those competitions)

Thanks for the interest, Verity. ‘The Jarmany Short Story Collection’ is on Amazon - Free for Kindle Unlimited members. Three of my efforts are among them along with certain competition entries from other eager beavers. I think I won a few of the competitions, particularly for a story called Hand of Fate, but I don’t think it’s one of those in the book (and it’s not remotely as dark as it sounds!). I have a few that I’ve drabbled, here and a few published by a local writers group here. It’s just a bit of fun!

Thanks Verity. I’ll need to get my original url re-hosted but I’ll need to have another look at my site first and probably upgrade it. Or maybe choose my publishing url.
