We met decades ago yesterday. It was love at first sight, mutual. It must have been resilient love as I was deemed ‘unsuitable’.... NOCD! Her father’s folks were apparently posh.

Along the way I met all her relatives, who doubtless were told, sotto voce, “It won’t last!”

I was taken to meet posh granny. I liked her, and she seemed to like me. She was unwittingly funny. The sight of her in her kitchen in a shabby housecoat, washing up with a fag hanging out of her mouth made me wonder ‘Is this what I’m judged against?’ Clearly it was.

It's good she wasn't hidebound by class - and what a lovely story, all the better because it's true.

We are talking minor class differences actually, but way back LIII years ago, apparently it mattered. I might not have been quite so posh, but my school was plenty posh enough for their son too! 😁
